Profile
Professor Michael H. Koby concentrates his teaching and scholarship on legal practice, comparative law, constitutional law, and religion and the law. Former special counsel for the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Commission), he is admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C., and Illinois. In addition to his teaching, he serves as director of the law school’s Trial & Advocacy Program and Director of the Lawyering Practice Externship in the Clinical Education Program. Professor Koby has presented at conferences nationally and has taught in Japan, Portugal and Spain on the distinctive aspects of U.S. law and legal methodology. He was also a Fulbright Scholar to Spain. Professor Koby has published articles in legal journals on such topics as the Constitution and new religious movement, children and online privacy protection, and the U.S. Supreme Court’s declining reliance on legislative history. Prior to joining the faculty at Washington University Law, he was on the faculty of Catholic University of America.
